I don't know.this all seems so exaggerated. The reaction at the time of its initial release was pretty overwhelmingly supportive from what I saw, and a few people saying "uh.that was kinda meh." My theory is that they went extreme to the right on fanservice to make a film that couldn't possibly be liked with the expectation that people will like it nonetheless because it's Evangelion. There is nothing in it that works as a film or a cogent story, while from any series other than Evangelion (especially a new series), it would likely be ridiculed or, if people at least liked the fan service, acknowledged to be pretty horrible in general. My argument at the time was that it was intentionally supposed to be a horrible movie. There's no character progression at all, other than in the last few seconds which doesn't count, but we're simply told that the characters we know from the past are essentially different people know. The plot is utterly stupid and every source of conflict is caused entirely by everyone ignoring Shinji or not explaining very basic things to him. There's so much going on, no way to discern what's really happening onscreen during battles, and very little explanation for most of the huge shifts. Part of it may have been the camrip, but my greatest issue was that it was a total clusterfuck. Not sure if you've seen or it but I'll try to speak very generally to avoid spoilers for anyone else that might not have seen it as well. However, we value your opinions, so you are free to state why you think our decision was wrong concerning a post. If we decide it should stay, it will stay.
